What is CLA?

Conjugated Linoleic Acid is a specific form of the essential fatty acid, linoleic acid. This healthy fatty acid is naturally found in cow’s milk, which is one of the richest dietary sources of CLA. One glass of VitalaMilk contains up to 3 times more CLA than a glass of conventional milk.

Benefits of CLA

  • In one study participants ingested a CLA rich cheese and as a result they had dramatic reductions in inflammatory markers. These inflammatory markers are an indicator of the risk of atherosclerosis, which is a major factor in cardiovascular disease1
  • Research in animal studies show that CLA may play a role in the prevention of multiple types of cancer including: breast, colon and prostate cancer2
  • Has been shown to contribute to a major life-long breast cancer reduction when consumed during puberty in female animal studies3, 4

Are Canadians getting enough CLA?

Although no official dietary recommendations have been established for CLA by Health Canada, research shows that it has protective effects at as little of 0.1% of the dietary intake in animals - which means for the average human diet, 600 mg of CLA per day would be necessary to provide the most beneficial effect. The average Canadian intake is only 94.9 mg/day.5

Two glasses of 3% VitalaMilk provides 300mg of CLA and triples current average CLA intake.
