What is Lutein?

Lutein is an important antioxidant present in many tissues of the body, found in especially high concentrations in the retina and lens of the eye. The human body is unable to create lutein so it is necessary that it obtained from dietary sources such as green leafy vegetables, fruits, corn, and VitalaEggs.

Benefits of Lutein

  • Acts as a natural filter for our eyes, protecting them from harmful and damaging blue light1
  • Multiple research studies indicate that lutein may play a role in the prevention of
AMD (Age Related Macular Degeneration) 2,3,4 and cataracts5,6,7,8
  • Acts as a powerful antioxidant1

Are Canadians getting enough Lutein?

Experts recommend consuming about 6000 µg of lutein daily for optimal eye health. However, a survey completed in 2002 examining the food habits of Canadians found that Canadian adults on average only consume 1,413 µg of lutein daily9.

Containing 1000 µg of Lutein each, VitalaEggs provide an easy and delicious form of lutein to help Canadians increase their daily consumption.
